Saturated ruby color. Heady aromas of red and dark berries, cherry-cola, vanillin oak spices and potpourri, with a smoky mineral overtone. Lush, pliant raspberry and mulberry flavors are complicated by notes of candied rose, vanilla, sassafras and five spice powder and framed by velvety tannins. A suave mineral component adds energy to the very long, spicy, penetrating finish. For a rich wine this is surprisingly energetic and focused. In fact I prefer this wine's vivacity to the power of the 2004 version.
