Tasting notes
A blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier, the 2012 Syrah John Sebastiano Vineyard sports an inky purple color to go with fresh, clean and classy notes of mineral-laced dark fruits, white pepper, herbs, smoke and crushed rock. One of the more streamlined, fresh and elegant wines from Russell, it still shows his house style with medium to full-bodied richness, plenty of texture and a great finish. It’s another beauty to drink over the coming 4-6 years. I loved these latest releases from winemaker Russell From. His 2011s are excellent in the vintage, with slightly toned down, elegant profiles that stay focused and tight on the palate. His 2012s are even better, with hedonistic, textured profiles and fantastic purity of fruit. They’re all worth checking out. Tel. (805) 714-9966; www.hermanstorywines.com

Dark red cherry, plum and smoke open up in the 2012 Syrah John Sebastiano Vineyard. Pliant, expressive and nuanced on the palate, the 2012 is another highly representative example of the Herman Story house style. Hints of lavender, cinnamon and cloves flesh out on the inviting, racy finish. This ia gorgeous showing from John Sebastiano, a well-exposed, windy site that is one of the most pedigreed in the Sta. Rita Hills.
