Tasting notes
The 2016 Franc-Mayne has a detailed bouquet of blackberry, wild strawberry and floral (rose petal) aromas that gain intensity with just a few swirls of the glass. Very sensual! The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and well-judged acidity, tightening up toward the finish but delivering plenty of substance and body. This seems to have gained the persistence that I was looking for 12 months ago. Great potential. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Very deep dark crimson. Intense nose with some velvety character but lacks a bit of energy and freshness. Just a bit of a blob. Some coconut oak. (JR)
A fresh, balanced, yet slightly skinny Saint Emilion, the 2016 Château Franc Mayne offers attractive notes that include plenty of black fruits, spice, leafy herbs, and coffee nuances. Medium-bodied, with good purity, it lacks some flesh and density, but it’s a solid, balanced wine. Drink it over the coming decade.
