Score 89-92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2014
(from 45-year-old vines; vinified with 40% of its stems): Deep red. More smoke and less fruit on the very closed nose. Quite tightly wound, showing sappy herb, spice and licorice notes but little in the way of sweetness today. Finishes with a sexy note of woodsmoke and a slight dry edge. Will this expand during its final months of elevage? Marchand does not expect to bottle it until May or June.
