Score 88/100 · Drink 2008-2014, Robert Parker, Dec 2008

From south of San Francisco, in Monterey County, the 2006 Syrah Ventana Vineyard is a cool climate effort revealing notes of herbs, earth, and dark red fruits. With high acidity, it is the most streamlined and compact of these Syrahs, and, to my palate, the least impressive. However, it is a good, dense, rich, northern Rhone-like effort to consume it over the next 5-6 years. Jeff Cohn, who used to make wine at Rosenblum Cellars, consistently turns out very interesting, flavorful wines under his own label. Syrah dominates his portfolio. Tel.
