Tasting notes
Good bright, full ruby. Medicinal black cherry, blueberry, minerals and bitter chocolate on the nose. Concentrated and tightly wrapped; distinctly more medicinal in character than the Home Vineyard or Chabot bottlings, showing limited early pliancy to its black and blue fruit flavors. The firm tannins come off as a tad dry compared to Beringer's other single-vineyard 2010 cabernet, but the finish is nonetheless strong and long, with a late note of bitter chocolate.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Vogt Vineyard offers up an attractive mélange of blue and black fruit, smoke, tar, chocolate, licorice, pencil shavings and graphite. A big, structured wine, the Vogt showcases the sheer power and intensity of the vintage. Firm tannins frame the huge, crescendo of aromas, flavors and sensations. The Vogt will require considerable patience, but it is a jewel of a wine.

The top Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings are terrific, but I am just as drawn to the entry and mid-tier offerings for their superb value and wide availability in the market. Tel. (707) 963-7115
