The 2000 Tokay-Pinot Gris Rotenberg offers fresh white fruit aromas. A detailed wine, it is medium-bodied, pure, and intricate. Its feminine character displays botrytis-laced white peaches. Projected maturity: 2004-2012. Olivier Humbrecht describes 2000 as "a year of excellent ripeness where the key to success was sorting out the bad rot prior to harvesting." To accomplish this, Humbrecht sent out teams to go through every parcel, dropping whatever bunches had been infected with sour rot. Domaine Zind-Humbrecht's harvest lasted 6 weeks, with one-fourth being accomplished between September 19 and October 5th, and the remaining three-fourths picked by October 31st. Resiny aromas of apples and spices. Dense, dusty and rich; has good weight in the mouth but the flavors lack real thrust. An easygoing, nicely balanced wine with very good length. This had the lowest potential alcohol of these 2000 tokays at just over 15%.
