Slightly closed aromatically, the 2012 Grenache Coastview Vineyard reluctantly gave up pretty kirsch, black raspberry, flowers and herbal notes to go with a medium-bodied, rounded, elegant style on the palate. Incorporating 6% Syrah and aged 21 months in French oak, it’s made in a seamless, juicy style that will drink well for 5-6 years.

A powerful, inviting wine, the 2012 Grenache Coastview Vineyard has come together nicely over the last year. The flavors are bold in a rich, broad Grenache loaded with personality. The 2012 is not especially varietal, but it is quite appealing if taken on its own terms. Sweet red cherry, raspberry jam and flowers flesh out on the finish. The 2012 was done with fully destemmed fruit and includes 6% Syrah in the blend.

Rose petals, sweet red berries and spices lift from the glass in the 2012 Grenache Coastview Vineyard. Overall, this is a decidedly floral, lifted, precise style of Grenache with considerable aromatic nuance but limited depth and overall complexity. My impression is that Syrah at Coastview is more varietally expressive than Grenache.

(blended with 13% syrah; all destemmed fruit and all neutral oak): Brilliant red. High-pitched red berry and floral scents are complemented by allspice and smoky minerals. Shows a lithe, pinot-like character and picks up a peppery quality with air. Sweet raspberry and lavender qualities dominate the clinging finish, which is smooth, seamless and very long. This sexy wine will be delicious on the young side but has the depth to reward patience.
