Tasting notes
The exceptional 2008 Syrah Sonoma offers attractive aromas of blackberry liqueur, camphor, forest floor, white chocolate, and a touch of jus de viande as well as a layered, opulent, full-bodied style. This gorgeous effort comes from six different sources spread throughout Sonoma. A fabulous bargain for this level of quality, it should drink well for a decade. Bravo to Morgan Twain-Peterson for proving that the younger generation is more than capable of kicking the older generation’s butt in terms of high quality wine! Made by Joel Peterson’s son, who appears to have already eclipsed his father in producing high quality wines, these are all innovative additions to the world of Rhone Ranger wines. Proprietor Morgan Twain-Peterson, who is not yet 30 years old, demonstrates an equally adept touch with his Syrah program. Tel. (707) 364-8763

Inky ruby. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of black fruits, pepper and spices; this could only be syrah. Then high-pitched and juicy in the mouth, with a penetrating quality to the sappy black raspberry and floral flavors. This spicy, vibrant wine finishes quite long, with lingering perfume and easygoing tannins. Drinking well now and a steal at its price.
