Tasting notes
There are 122 cases of the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras, scheduled for release in Fall 2024. Scents of crushed stone and pencil shavings join cherries and dried sage on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is expansive and rich, concentrated and nicely textured, with a long, layered finish that hints at dark chocolate and espresso.

The Las Piedras Vineyard seems to have hit another level over the past couple of years, and the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Las Piedras Vineyard is a prime example of the quality and style of this St. Helena site. Gorgeous red and black fruits, graphite, baking spices, and chocolate all give way to a medium to full-bodied, ultra-pure, seamless, finesse-driven Cabernet Sauvignon. Las Piedras never delivers the same level of power as the wines from Dr. Crane, but it seems to deliver another level of finesse and elegance. This brilliant wine will benefit from 3-5 years in the cellar and have two decades or more of prime drinking.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Las Piedras is a pretty wine laced with bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice and white pepper. This is an especially delicate vintage for Las Piedras, but some of the characteristic savory and mineral notes of this site appear over time. The 2021 is a very good wine. All that is missing is a stronger expression of place, something that should be possible given how distinctive Las Piedras is.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Las Piedras is quite sleek and promising. Red/purplish berry fruit, spice and floral accents all race out of the glass. This is an especially refined wine from Las Piedras, a site where Cabernets tend to be much more muscular.
