Coming all from the Dionnieres lieu-dit, the 2015 Hermitage Les Dionnières (100% Syrah aged in second fill barrels) offers killer notes of blackberry liqueur, liquid rock, pen ink and scorched earth. Rich, full-bodied, tannic and structure, it's a serious Hermitage that needs 4-5 years of bottle age, and will keep for two decades or more. This is another family run estate (it’s run by brother and sister Laurent Fayolle and Céline Nodin) producing a bevy of solid wines. The estate is located in Crozes-Hermitage and the winemaker is traditional, with destemmed, longer macerations, and aging mostly in larger barrels. They also have a tiny amount vines in Hermitage, which produced a blockbuster wine in 2015!

Subdued and savory on the nose, the 2015 Hermitage les Dionnieres then develops flavors of dark-roasted malt, blackberry, plum and scorched meat. It's full-bodied and ripe, with plenty of tannin, drawing to a long, mouthwatering close. Give it until 2025 and then drink it over the next decade.

(aged in new and used demi-muids ) Opaque ruby. Heady black and blue fruit, incense and potpourri scents show excellent clarity and pick up suggestions of licorice and smoked meat with air. Broad, sweet and sappy on the palate, offering densely packed yet lively blackberry and cherry compote flavors along with spicecake and olive accents. Smooth, slow-building tannins give shape and grip to the finish, which lingers with outstanding, mineral-tinged persistence.
