Tasting notes
The Weinbach 2006 Riesling Schlossberg Selection de Grains Nobles strikes me in some respects - not so surprisingly - as an accentuation of the corresponding V.T. Fortunately, while that description encompasses enormous concentration of nut paste and pit fruits, fresh citrus, and glossy richness of texture, the alkaline notes that concerned me in the V.T. are muted here and arguably constitute a part of the wine's positive complexity. Abundant, wafting, high-toned distilled pit fruit notes and liqueur-like concentration of mandarin orange add to a dazzling performance that I suspect will be repeatable over the next 30 years. This year, Domaine Weinbach will receive its official certification as organic and biodynamic growers. The Fallers did well in the difficult 2006 vintage - especially with those Gewurztraminer harvested before botrytis gained the upper hand - and with good reason expressed elation over the vibrancy and refinement that characterizes most of 2007s. Spices and exotic flowers on the recent nose. Then fairly glyceral in the mouth but quite firm-edged for all its sweetness. Wonderfully tactile, chewy wine but not yet demonstrative. Builds slowly and mounts impressively on the very long, discreet finish, which features vibrant acidity and citric freshness.
