Aged for 20 month in French oak (30% new). Green, leafy nose. Very much the cooler side of Cabernet, with the firm structure to match. Tangy acid, lots of aromatic, acetic-edged character. Floral as well. The tannin is quite formidable and this should reward cellaring. (RH)

Even more herbaceous than the 2018, the 2019 Leeu Passant Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon is savory and has a compact frame, dusty red cherry aromas, hints of sweet red bell pepper, notions of wild herbs and a dusty minerality. Medium to full-bodied, the wine compresses on the palate with a food-friendly expression that is slightly more open-knit than the previous vintage, followed by somewhat drying tannins, graphite elements and a rocky essence.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon has a very earthy nose, peppermint and rooibos intertwining with the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with a supple opening and fine acidity. I am seeking a little more structure and grip toward the austere finish.
