Tasting notes
Showing the heart of Syrah, the 2015 Syrah Principia Reserve opens with a nose of generous black fruits, compounded by soft, intoxicating aromas of smoked bacon fat on the nose. Full-bodied and densely flavored, a dusty and richly weighted mouthfeel expands to show flavors of blackberry jus, plum compote and black pepper that float across the mid-palate. Lingering long, the finish is generous and spicy. You get a sense of the heat of the vintage when drinking this wine. I look forward to sampling the 2016 bottling. 76 cases produced.

Bright, dark ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and licorice are a bit youthfully stunted today. Sweet but quite closed in the mouth, offering classically dry flavors of blackberry, blueberry, huckleberry, dried currant, licorice and violet. In an uncompromisingly dry style and much less expressive than the 2014 was at the same stage. Finishes with notes of minerals, mocha, earth and dried sage. Give this a good aeration in a decanter or lay it down for another couple of years. (15.1% alcohol)
