Tasting like a barrel sample, with its jammy, fresh black and blue fruits, bloody meat, peppery herbs and olive notes, the 2014 Cornas L'Elegance Du Caillou is medium to full-bodied, ripe, rounded and layered, with tons of fruit and texture. It's a beautiful wine, but needs a year or two to come together.

Inky ruby. Expressive aromas of ripe cherry, black raspberry, licorice and peppery spices are joined by a smoky quality as the wine opens up. Fresh and energetic in the mouth, offering concentrated red and blue fruit flavors sweetened by a suave floral pastille quality. Puts on weight while maintaining vibrancy, and finishes sappy, gently tannic and very long, leaving a juicy berry note behind. Distinctly graceful for a Cornas and surprisingly delicious now, at least with a good bit of decanter time.
