Tasting notes
Until 2007 this was a bottling of a lieu-dit within the Rizzi vineyard. In 2008 it will be called Riserva. Transparent ruby. Intense raspberry and amarena cherry nose. Intense and ripe on the palate too with waves of grainy tannin. Everything is intense about this wine. Very fine, sandy persistent tannin. It would be infanticide to drink this now, but already delicious. (WS)

The 2007 Barbaresco Boito possesses excellent intensity in its dark fruit, menthol, licorice and spices. This is a more overt, up-front style. Some of the persistence drops off on the finish, but this is nevertheless a fine showing. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Rizzi is a beautiful property high in the hills of Treiso. While I tend to feel the estate could be doing more with their vineyards, it is hard to argue with the generally favorable pricing of these wines. These are generally forward Barbareschi that can be enjoyed with a minimum of cellaring. Various American importers, including: Opici Wines , www.opiciwines.com
