Score 94/100 · Drink 2014-2020, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

Every bit as good, if not a touch better, the 2010 Syrah Les Galets Vineyard delivers a deep, meaty style with notions of currants, blackberry, smoked meat, cracked pepper, tobacco and masses of crushed stone / mineral qualities emerging from the glass. A full-bodied effort, with a voluptuous richness that comes through more with air, it stays beautifully light and clean on the palate, with little apparent weight. More structure and tannin emerge on the finish and, like all of McPrice’s 2010s, it needs short-term cellaring to come together. It is a gorgeous Syrah and will shine for over a decade. Drink 2014-2020. These 2010s and 2011s from McPrice are straight up fantastic. Very classy and pure, they all benefitted from substantial air time and deserve another year or two in the cellar. In addition to delivering rock-star quality, they also represent superb values. This is another Paso Robles producer who has consistently produced outstanding wines that remain more than reasonably priced given their quality. They merit serious attention! Tel. A different side of Syrah comes through in the 2010 Les Galets, which emerges from vines in Arroyo Grande. Stylistically, the Galets is more forward, powerful and fruit-driven than the Larner, but it has less in the way of flavor complexity. Ultimately, I have a preference for the Galets, as its overall sense of balance pays more attention to finesse and elegance.

Inky purple. Heady aromas and flavors of blueberry, mocha and incense. Elegant, seamless, deeply fruity syrah, with bright acidity adding lift. This expansive wine finishes with impressive back-end lift and sweetness.
