The 2010 Caliza Winery Companion is an knockout blend of equal parts Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Mostly opaque and ruby/purple in color, it offers up Bordeaux-like aromas of black currant, lead pencil, earth, chocolate, and spice to go with a full-bodied, balanced, and beautifully silky palate. This has real polish, as well as loads of depth, solid mid-palate concentration, and masses of ripe tannin on the finish; it needs a solid decant if drinking anytime soon, yet should evolve gracefully for over a decade.
