Tasting notes
More youthful and fresh, the 2008 Caliza Winery Syrah is 100% Syrah that comes from the estate Caliza Vineyard as well as the Russell Family Vineyard, both located on the western side of Paso Robles. Spending 24 months in barrel, it sports decadently ripe aromatics of chocolate, blackberries, plum, roast coffee, and grilled meats that lead to a full-bodied, richly textured wine that has loads of fruit, good acidity, and a clean, heady, and completely dry finish. This blockbuster Syrah should be enjoyed over the coming 3-5 years.

Opaque purple. Flamboyant aromas of cherry and cassis, with complicating oak and floral nuances. Deep and chewy in texture, showing alluring black raspberry and spice flavors and a slow-building smokiness. The long, floral-accented finish features supple tannins and resonating spiciness.
The 2008 Syrah is another bold, extrovertred wine built on a core of blue and black fruit. This is a relatively straightforward wine with attractive flashiness but little real complexity. Part of the fruit was sourced from the nearby Russell Family Vineyard.
