Tasting notes
The most serious red is Luna's proprietary Tuscan blend (primarily Sangiovese, Merlot, and a tiny dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon that sees 60% new oak) called Canto. The deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 Canto possesses generous, beautiful fruit without the depth and body of the 1999. A sweet nose of dried herbs, earth, black fruits, and smoke is accompanied by a medium-bodied, soft effort with good underlying acidity in the background as well as a spicy finish. It should drink well for 7-8 years. Tel. (707) 255-5862

(Luna's super-cuvee, a blend of 53% sangiovese, 22% merlot, 13% cab franc, 6% cabernet sauvignon and 6% syrah) Full ruby-red. Spicy, minerally aromas of blueberry, blackberry, graphite and iron. Bright, spicy and intensely flavored, with lovely framing acidity. This is really stuffed with sweet fruit and minerals, but there's excellent underlying spine. Finishes with big but thoroughly ripe tannins.
