The 2008 Pinot Noir Nielson Vineyard is another relatively forward Pinot. It shows attractive up-front juiciness in its sweet dried red cherries, tobacco, herbs and licorice. Some of the persistence fades a bit on the mid-palate and finish. This remains a tasty, well-balanced wine but it needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. The Nielson Vineyard Pinot spent 18 months in French oak, 60% new.

Some of the persistence fades a bit on the mid-palate and finish. This remains a tasty, well-balanced wine but it needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2013. The Chardonnays and Pinots are the highlights among these new releases from Bonaccorsi Wine Company. I was less enamored with the 2007 Syrahs I tasted. The Pinots are vinified with indigenous yeasts and spend 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% new for all wines except the Melville, which gets 70%. Tel. (310) 994-3207; www.bonawine.net
Bright ruby. Vibrant aromas of black raspberry, cherry, licorice, rose and incense. Firm and intense, with very good sweetness and fleshiness to its dark berry and spicecake flavors. Tannins arrive late and add shape and grip to a long, sappy finish. On the serious side and in need of some bottle age.
