Tasting notes
The 2019 Zinfandel Rocky Knoll is one of the more lifted, precise wines in this range . Wines from Limerick Lane are rarely finessed. This is as close as it gets. Bright acids, red/purplish fruit and a touch of blood orange play off its creamy, layered personality. Dollops of Syrah and Petite Sirah add layers of dimension. The Rocky Knoll emerges from the steepest and driest part of the ranch. It is one of the most distinctive wines in the range.

One of the darker-hued Zinfandels in the lineup, the 2019 Zinfandel Rocky Knoll checks in as 86% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah, and 5% Syrah that all comes from the Limerick Lane estate vineyard. It was 90% destemmed and spent 18 months in just 11% new French oak. Beautiful darker blackberry and blueberry fruit as well as lots of pepper, smoked herb, and graphite notes dominate the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a light, elegant texture, supple tannins, and a good (though possibly not great) finish. Nevertheless, this elegant, beautifully balanced wine builds nicely with time in the glass. Give bottles another year or three, and it should keep for a good decade.
