Tasting notes
(from sandy silt soil at high elevation): Full ruby-red. Aroma of black fruits, tar and licorice are complicated by hints of camphor and bloody steak; there's also a stony note here in spite of the fact that this is low-mineral soil. Plush, fine-grained and spicy on entry, then concentrated, juicy and youthfully tight in the mid-palate. The wine's firm tannins currently narrow its finish a bit but the wine's lingering aromatic complexity suggests that it only needs time in bottle to expand. (The 2013 version was more harmonious at the same stage of its evolution but also quite primary.)

The 2014 Syrah Morrison Lane Vineyard from Walla Walla offers a perfumed bouquet of incense, white pepper, plum and hoisin sauce, as well as full-bodied richness, building tannin and a great finish. It needs short term cellaring to integrate those tannin, but is an impressive Syrah.
