(14.8% alcohol) Jammy, roasted raspberry, exotic spices, wild herbs and nutty oak on the nose. Exotic, plump and oak-spicy but could use a bit more freshness of fruit and verve. Comes across as quite ripe but a bit dry on the back, with a pronounced oakiness.

From the Fess Parker Vineyard in Santa Barbara, the 2003 Syrah (372 cases) exhibits a dense ruby/purple-tinged color as well as a big, floral bouquet revealing hints of olives, garrigue, and pepper. Medium to full-bodied with moderate tannin, restraint, and finesse, it is the most elegant Syrah in this portfolio. Give it another 1-2 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following decade.
