Inky ruby. Pungent aromas of cassis, cherry, violet and incense expand with air, picking up smoked meat and graphite nuances; this really smells like syrah. Fleshy, palate-staining dark berry flavors are framed by silky tannins and turn spicier with air. The floral quality builds on the finish, which echoes the smoke and mineral notes. This was fermented with one-third whole clusters.
