The 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur le Sentier du Clou is showing very nicely from bottle, unfurling in the glass with scents of white flowers, crisp green orchard fruit, almond paste and oatmeal. Medium to full-bodied, it's ample and enveloping, with racy acids and a fleshy core of fruit, concluding with a precise finish. This, too, was frosted; but it's a bit more classically proportioned than the premier cru blend.

Intense stony, almost smoky nose with just a touch of struck match. More obviously reductive on the palate too but balanced by precise and intense sour-citrus fruit. Wonderful depth and intensity of fruit to balance the extreme freshness. Long. (JH)
