Tasting notes
The 1997 Morellino di Scansano Riserva reveals a light medium ruby color in addition to complexity in the earthy, mineral, woodsy/foresty-scented nose. In the mouth, the wine lacks opulence and concentration, but offers a supple, straightforward style. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. Shrewd value-seekers should seek out wines from the Morellino di Scansano appellation as this is increasingly becoming a source for tasty as well as, for the moment, underpriced reds. The American importer for Fattoria Le Pupille has recently changed and I am unaware of their current representative.

Solid ruby-garnet. Wild cherries and plums on the nose, along with burnt licorice. Silky in texture, with quintessential, focused sangiovese fruit notes of plum, redcurrant and cherry supported by melting tannins. Polished and classy.
