Tasting notes
Lastly, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard comes from a site in Calistoga. (The majority of wines from Turnbull are from Oakville.) As with all the wines here, it's inky purple-hued and displays terrific purity in its red and blue fruits, cedary spice, crushed violet, graphite, and piney/forest floor-like notes. Deep, rich, and beautifully textured, it has a fleshy, flamboyant style and the depth and structure to keep for two decades.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard is one of the more overtly potent wines in this range. Black cherry, tobacco, leather, smoke and licorice add to the wine's virile feel. The raw power and intensity of Calistoga come through loud and clear in this explosive, dense Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard has a deep garnet-purple color and opens with profound baked blackberries, plum preserves and crème de cassis notes giving way to nuances of Chinese five spice, smoked meats, sautéed herbs and tilled black soil. Full-bodied, rich and powerfully fruited in the mouth, it has a firm frame of ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness to lift the hedonistic fruit to a long finish.
