I had a decidedly strong preference for the 2004 Chardonnay Durrell Vineyard Wente Clone. It exhibits admirable notes of lightly buttered popcorn, white citrus, white peach, and a beautiful long, rich, leesy mouthfeel with terrific texture and a heady finish. Good underlying acidity, and a finish displaying nicely integrated, spicy oak suggest it should drink well for 4-5 years. Tel. (707) 963-3100; Fax (707) 963-3114

Complex aromas of lemon cream, minerals and butter, plus an exhilarating crystallized fruit character. Impressively fat with fruit but at the same time dense, bright and sharply delineated. Saline, mineral and dusty stone components add to the wine's tactile texture. The dusty stone character gives the finish terrific chewy texture and grip. (My sample of the 2004 Durell Dijon chardonnay was still shocked by the recent bottling; I will try to taste this wine later on.)
