From a 109-year-old vineyard made famous by Larry Turley, the 2012 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard (100% Zinfandel) spent 17 months in French oak, 18% new. This big, blockbuster Zinfandel (15.9% alcohol) boasts a dense purple color as well as beautiful aromas of blueberries, blackberries, camphor, tar and spice box. This classic, full-throttle, pedal-to-the-metal Zinfandel possesses terrific acidity, which buttresses the wine’s foreboding, brooding power. Drink it over the next decade or more.

(from vines that are reportedly 109 years old; 15.9% alcohol; 30% new French oak): Vivid ruby. Intense, vibrant aromas of red and dark berry preserves, licorice and peppery spices are lifted by a smoky mineral quality. Stains the palate with sappy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that put on weight with air. The licorice and mineral notes dominate the finish, which shows outstanding clarity and youthfully gripping tannins. I suspect that this powerful zin will age slowly and positively.

The 2012 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard is simply magnificent. Silky, layered and exceptionally polished, the 2012 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard shows the pedigree of this great Napa Valley site, one of California's very best. There is a purity and level of finesse here that is hard to describe with mere words. If California had a formal classification of vineyards there is little doubt Hayne would be a Grand Cru.
