The 2016 Pinot Noir Siren's Call emerges from a parcel of own-rooted vines. Savory and perfumed, but also very tightly wound, the Siren's Call comes across as stressed and lacking in fruit. I am not sure the 2016 will ever blossom into a truly expressive, rewarding and complete Pinot. Admittedly, the 2016 is very hard to read at this stage.

The 2016 Siren's Call, which was destemmed by hand and hails from ungrafted vines planted in decomposed quartz, is one of the most impressive of these just-bottled wines from Domaine de la Côte, bursting with complex aromas of orange rind, cranberry, pomegranate and rose hip. On the palate, the wine is supple, concentrated and very mineral; it is the firmest, most tensile of the single vineyards, though the structuring tannins are very fine-grained. The long, stony finish is unerringly precise. This vintage of Siren's Call has a long future ahead of it.
