Score 92/100 · Drink 2000-2015, Robert Parker, Dec 2000
The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena Home Vineyard offers copious quantities of blackberry/cassis fruit, in addition to tannin and structure. Spicy, with outstanding ripeness, a big, chewy mid-section, and intriguing roasted coffee and black currant flavors, this will be a large-scaled Cabernet to drink during its first 15 years of life. Saturated ruby to the rim. Cassis, licorice, mint and shoe polish on the nose; shows a Pauillac-like austerity. Ripe and chewy but sharply delineated; austere dark berry and licorice flavors call for patience. Finishes with serious but ripe tannins and excellent length.
