Dark crimson. Very direct nose – focused, you might say. Crunchy tannins and not exactly refined or sweet. Requires a hunk of meat. (JR)

(a négociant wine bottled under the Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs label; 70% new oak; tasted from cuve ): Medium red. Lively aromas of tangy red cherry, raspberry and red licorice. Then juicy and tightly wound, offering modest flesh and ripeness to its flavors of red fruits, licorice and herbs. Finishes with brisk, slightly sour aciity and a peppery nuance.

The 2013 Marsannay Village has a pleasant blackcurrant and cassis bouquet – light and airy. The palate is crisp on the entry with a citric line of acidity, pinched blackberry and blueberry fruit toward the finish. Not bad for a Village Cru, but a more benevolent vintage would have yielded more substance.
