Score 92/100 · David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, Feb 2007
Weis’s 2005 Kaseler Nies’chen Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese smells and tastes of yellow plum paste, quince and currant jellies, cinnamon spice, and caramelized apricot. Bright acids, clear, pure fruit, and clean botrytis ennoblement combine for an elegant and juicy expression of 2005 vintage potential at the upper reaches of Oechsle. This hasn’t got quite the refinement or finishing subtlety of the B.A., being faintly fiery and (at least two months after bottling) sharp. Also Recommended: 2005 Kaseler Nies’chen Riesling Kabinett ($18.00; 86). Importers: Mosel Wine Merchant, Manhasset, NY and Trier, Germany; tel. +49 (0) 651 14551 38, and Dee Vine Wines, San Francisco, CA; tel. (877) 389-9463
