Score 96/100 · Drink 2024-2036, Jeb Dunnuck, Aug 2024

One of the more exotic, perfumed wines in the lineup, the 2022 Paderewski Vineyard checks in as 43% Syrah, 26% Mataro, 14% Tempranillo, 11% Graciano, and 6% Viognier that spent 22 months in 60% new oak. Red and blue fruits, minty herbs, orange blossom, peach, and tons of peppery, floral notes all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, and ultra-fine tannins. It shows the ripe, charming, upfront, and already approachable style of the vintage.

Drop-dead gorgeous, the 2022 Paderewski Vineyard wafts up with a confectionary blend of lavender pastille, violets and crushed blackberries, contrasted by hints of wet stone. This is more savory than sweet, with sleek textures and racy acidity that propels its tart wild berry fruits across the palate. It becomes nearly salty through the finish, leaving the mouth watering for more as a tinge of sour citrus lingers on. The Paderewski is a wine of contrasts. I love it. Sadly, 2023 will be the last vintage of this cuvée as Saxum’s new estate parcels come online.

The 2022 Paderewski Vineyard combines 43% Syrah, 26% Mataro, 14% Tempranillo, 11% Graciano and 6% Viognier, aged 22 months in 60% new 300-liter barrels. The nose is dark-fruited yet floral and lively, with roasted plum, dehydrated raspberry, charcoal, violet and lavender aromas. The palate is rich and svelte but light on its feet, balanced with succulent acidity and powdery tannins. The finish blends delicious, juicy, dark fruit flavors and lining, structured acidity—a beautiful, high-toned and graceful showing of Saxum's singular style.
