Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2008

Good full ruby. Dark berries, menthol and chocolatey oak on the nose. Big, chewy and superripe, with slightly chunky flavors of black cherry, chocolate and minerals. Finishes fat, sweet and quite long, with substantial dusty tannins and a note of menthol.

From 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena Mountain (950 cases) reveals classic notes of creme de cassis, cedar, new saddle leather, spice box, and hints of licorice and chocolate. Its fabulous up-front fruit follows through on the palate. The wine possesses a layered mouthfeel, full body, beautiful purity, silky tannin, and a long finish. It is already accessible (a hallmark of all the Del Dotto offerings), but should age nicely for 15-20 years. Tel.(707) 963-2134
