Score 93/100 · Drink 2012-2024, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, Apr 2010

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino emerges with a dark, authoritative expression of smoke, scorched earth, wild berries, plums and cherries. The richness of the fruit matches the wine’s muscle pound for pound, while the finish is utterly convincing in its power and richness. This is a wonderful effort from Franco Pacenti. Unfortunately I was not able to taste the regular bottling of the 2005 Brunello. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. Importers: Padania Wines LLC Importer & Distributor, Miami, FL; tel. Good bright red. Musky cherry, gingerbread and dried rose on the nose, lifted by a whiff of blood orange. Silky-sweet and graceful, with a mineral firmness underlying the rather plush strawberry fruit. This impressively deep, classy, scented Brunello finishes with fine-grained tannins and excellent subtle persistence. Delivers lovely pure sangiovese character.

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino from Canalicchio - Franco Pacenti, reveals notable clarity and vibrancy, as flowers, minerals, spices and dark fruit come together in the glass. Today the wine is rather firm and fresh, yet the tannins are refined and the balance is impeccable, all of which bode well for the future. Pretty hints of smoke, earthiness and leather linger on the close.
