Tasting notes
The 2019 Airavata Syrah is brooding and densely aromatic on the palate. The wine is layered with blackberry and plum, mulberry and graphite, roast beef crust, beetroot, blood and hints of rose petals. It's a big wine, but it feels regionally correct in its rocky countenance and mineral sort of feel. These Hawke's Bay Syrahs seem to achieve a levity of weight/feeling on the palate, amidst a cavalcade of fruit and tannin. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under cork.

The 2019 Airavata is the top Syrah from Elephant Hill, sourced predominantly from its Gimbett Gravels vineyard with a portion of Bridge Pa fruit to flesh out its core. It displays an intense color, richness of fruit and a brooding character within its silken core. It is long, savory, deeply fruited with jalapeno, white pepper and dark chocolate. There's an abundance of tannin pervading the core of the wine coating the palate generously, adding texture and embrace. It provides plenty of potential for the future whilst not preventing the impatient drinker from approaching it with food. Complex, a long term prospect.
