Score 93/100 · Drink 2018-2028, Jeb Dunnuck, Jan 2018

The largest production cuvée, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Promesse is 92% Syrah and 8% Viognier, from the Rozier and le Plomb lieux-dits, that was all destemmed and aged 14 months in barrel. Black raspberries, crushed flowers, exotics spice and violet notes all give way to a rounded, sexy, voluptuous Côte Rôtie that has sweet tannin, a great mid-palate and a clean finish. It's a classic Côte Rôtie to enjoy anytime over the coming decade or more. This family-run estate covers 4.7 hectares in Condrieu, just under 5 hectares in Saint Joseph and 3.9 hectare in Côte Rôtie. Both the 2015s and 2016s are beautiful wines.

92% Syrah, 8% Viognier. Pretty, lifted, fragrant nose with oak almost masking the floral character. Meaty and spicy on the palate, light-bodied and vibrant. Gorgeous violet and smoked-beef character to finish. (RH)

(aged for 13 months in barriques , 75 percent of them new) Deep ruby. Dark berries, olive, smoked meat and vanilla on the expressive nose. Lush and open-knit, offering sweet black and blue fruit flavors and suggestions of mocha and cola. Tightens up on the persistent finish, which features lingering clove and cherry-vanilla qualities.

Another impressive wine was the 2015 Côte Rôtie Promesse, which reveals a deep ruby/purple color in addition to notes of black raspberries, cassis, sweet oak and crushed flowers. It’s rich and concentrated, with a solid mid-palate, but is seriously young and unevolved, so I suspect it’s going to need short-term cellaring.
