Tasting notes
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru is fascinating to compare with Mugneret’s Suchots, being perhaps even more pixelated, with darker fruit and heightened mineralité, and crushed stone sprinkled in the glass. The medium-bodied palate delivers fine-grained tannins. More saline than Les Suchots, with superb tension and poise on the long finish. Superb.

Very old vines, just 200 m away from Les Suchots. 55% whole bunch. 25% new oak. Barrel sample. Deeper and more purple in colour than Les Suchots. More spicy and rich on the nose. Seems to be both fruit and oak sweetness. Firm and meaty on the palate, an altogether bigger and more broad wine, not as elegant as Les Suchots but more savoury and less open and with a touch of reduction (I think) giving that meaty note.
