Score 94/100 · Drink 2021-2028, Josh Raynolds, Jan 2018

Lurid red. Spice-accented raspberry and cherry aromas, along with complicating woodsmoke, cola and Asian spice flourishes. Silky and focused on the palate, offering sweet, densely packed red fruit liqueur, succulent herb and violet pastille flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. Fine-grained tannins frame an extremely long, spice-tinged finish that shows outstanding clarity and lingering floral and red fruit notes.

About 300 cases typically made, coming exclusively from a single section of Pommard clone planted in 1979. Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2015 Pinot Noir Estate Flat Block has a restrained, earthy nose of mossy bark, fungi and damp soil over a core of cranberries and red currants plus a hint of wild thyme. Medium-bodied, it delivers a fine, refreshing structure of tightly-grained tannins and light acid, framing intense, earthy flavors that finish long and layered.
