The 2009 Reserva de Familia Carmenere offers dusty black fruit on the nose with hints of mocha and bacon fat. The palate is medium-bodied, a little unsettled at first, although it comes together with aeration. There is a pleasant core of tarry black fruit and just the right amount of dryness and weight on the abrupt finish. No known US importer.

(15% alcohol): Opaque purple. Ripe black and blue fruits are complicated by licorice, vanilla and clove. Plush and expansive, offering intense blueberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of palate-numbing pepperiness. Finishes sweet and persistent, leaving an oak spice note behind.
