A medium salmon/tangerine color, the NV Champagne Rose Brut is pretty, with notes of English candies, toffee, fresh pastry, floral perfume, and fresh peach. Medium-bodied, I love this release of the rosé, which has a pillowy and rounded mouthfeel, complemented by refreshing acidity and notes of raspberries, fresh grapefruit, and candied praline. Medium-bodied but rounded, I like this a lot. It’s a blended rosé, designed to be enjoyed upon release, and offers considerable versatility. Based on 2022. The sister house to Salon, Delamotte owns 10 hectares of vineyards in Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant, and Avize. They purchase grapes from 80 hectares, mostly Chardonnay from Oiry and Chouilly, as well as some Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims in Bouzy, Ambonnay, and Tours-sur-Marne. A small amount of Meunier is purchased from around Epernay. When Salon does not produce a vintage wine, those parcels are used in the production of Delamotte bottlings. Like Salon, the wines are fermented and matured entirely in stainless steel; however, malolactic fermentation is achieved on a case-by-case basis.

Pouring a bright, medium salmon/orange-tinged color, the NV Champagne Rose is based on the 2019 vintage with the addition of 12% red wine from Bouzy, Ambonnay, and Tours sur Marne. Like the Brut, the wine is expressive and showing beautifully out the gate It has a fruity and spicy nose, with a delicate reductive note that benefits from air on opening, revealing very pretty notes of fresh peaches, lilac, a hint of candied grapefruit, and wet stones. It is a very charming wine on the palate, with a refined mousse, a touch of fresh ginger and white pepper, and an elegantly rounded feel in a medium frame. With a clean and stony finish, it’s versatile and drinking wonderfully now but can also age for another 6-8 years. 8 grams per liter dosage.

The quality of this NV rosé is subtle, with such beautiful aromas of cherry, orange peel, pomegranate and honeysuckle. Hints of bitter lemon and sliced strawberry. Medium body with very fine bubbles and a creamy, lively finish. The base is 2021. Two years on the lees. Dosage 7.5g/L. Small production. Only 10,000 bottles made. Drink or hold.

Base vintage 2019. 80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir. 24 months on lees, disgorged April 2022. Dosage 8 g/l. Lovely colour – more of a deep Provence rosé than oeil de perdrix in hue. Floral nose with strawberry fruit. Crisp and precise on the palate with a lovely balance between the drive of Chardonnay and summer-fruit character of the Pinot Noir. (AWH)
