Deep ruby-red. Superripe aromas of plum, mocha and chocolate, with hints of tar, molasses and raisin. Lush, broad and fine-grained but not overly sweet, with very ripe plum, chocolate liqueur and spicecake flavors and obviously high alcohol. Best for fans of wines just short of roasted and raisiny (the label says 16% alcohol!). Finishes with substantial building tannins and hints of mocha and menthol, plus a saline nuance that reminded me of an Australian shiraz made from desiccated grapes. You've been warned. (Another bottle was more raisiny on the nose, and more tannic too.)

(15.9% alcohol; 90% malbec and 10% cabernet sauvignon) Bright ruby-red. Meaty aromas of black fruit liqueur, beefsteak tomato and charred oak. Hugely sweet, chunky and mouthfilling, with a jammy ripeness and a flavor of roasted peppers. Reminded me of a big Languedoc blend. Finishes with chunky, tongue-dusting tannins and notes of leather and game. A major if rather unrefined mouthful of wine.
