Tasting notes
Bright, full ruby. Slightly reduced aromas of dark berries, musky coffee and game. Supple and smoky, if a bit less intense and penetrating than the basic bottling. But this offers a lovely creamy sweetness and very good depth. Finishes with a broad dusting of tannins and very good length.

From a site made famous by Pax Cellars, the 2006 Syrah Griffin’s Lair Vineyard is a 270-case cuvee displaying beautiful tar, roasted meat, pepper, incense, and blackberry characteristics in its medium-bodied, nicely textured personality. It, too, can be consumed over the next 5-6 years. Karen Culler (who also makes the wines for Wolf Family Vineyards and Ladera) fashions some impressive cuvees under her own label.
