Red-ruby. Musky, high-toned aromas of kirsch, cola, sassafras and meat. Supple on the palate, with flavors of dark berries and sassafras. Sweeter than the Shell Creek offering but could use a bit more fruit character to go with its game and animal fur. Finishes with broad, dusty, rather sweet tannins and good length.

The 2003 Syrah Brave Oak Vineyard exhibits a dense ruby/purple hue along with a big, sweet nose of blackberries, licorice, scorched earth, and incense. It is an exotic, classic, full-bodied, rich Syrah that should age for 10-15 years based on how well it lasted during extended aeration. Tel. (805) 489-2900
