2003 Andrew Will Syrah Annie Camarda

One Rhone-style wine was offered for tasting. The 2003 Annie Camarda Syrah was aged for 37 months in 100% new French oak. Purple-colored, it has a nose of smoke, espresso roast, scorched earth, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Despite (or perhaps because of) the lengthy stay in new oak, the wine comes off as four-square, tannic, and lacking complexity. It is intense and mouth-filling, so perhaps time will treat it kindly but that is a gamble.
