Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2021, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Dec 2019

Bright yellow. Aromas of tropical fruits and fresh flowers plus a waxy nuance; still a bit closed owing to the oak. At once creamy and firm, boasting excellent intensity to its juicy flavors of fresh apricot and nectarine, apricot pit and vanilla bean. In spite of a high pH of 3.9, this wine shows a solid spine of acidity. The finish is saline and uncompromisingly dry. This wine may not possess quite the extract of the 2016 version but it's equally fresh. (14% alcohol, the highest to date for this wine; aged in 50% new oak, more than previously; full malo)

Brought up in 40% new French oak, the 2017 Viognier In The Rocks is another richer effort that has a powerful bouquet of honeyed citrus, apricot, white flowers, and hazelnuts. Beautiful on the palate as well, with some real Viognier texture and salinity, drink it over the coming couple of years.
