Tasting notes
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Steltzner Old Vines comes from the original planting going back to 1980 and, as with all the Cabernet Sauvignon releases from Vice Versa, it's all varietal and it spent 18 months in 75% new French oak. It has a vivid purple hue as well as a flawlessly balanced, layered, full-bodied style carrying beautiful black cherry and blueberry-like fruit, notes of sappy herbs, spring flowers, and graphite, ripe yet incredibly fine-grained tannins, and a great finish. It doesn't get more seamless and classy. This brilliant, perfumed, complex Stags Leap beauty will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and evolve for 30-40 years if well stored. Bravo.

The old vines on this Stags Leap property reliably turn out some of the most striking wines in Napa. Vice Versa's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Steltzner Old Vines delivers complex waves of aroma and flavor, dealing out black cherries, mocha, cinnamon and redder berries as well. Full-bodied, it's suede-like in texture, then plush, creamy and long on the finish. There's a certain elegance and complexity to this wine, which delivers ample intensity without excessive weight.
