Tasting notes
Dark, bright ruby. Urgent crushed dark berries and a note of roast coffee reduction on the nose, with black raspberry emerging with aeration. Juicy, penetrating Syrah with crushed blackberry and mineral flavors complicated by a hint of game. A low-fat version of the variety with insistent minerality giving energy and precision to the middle palate. Finishes firmly tannic but with plenty of juicy fruit.

Made from 100% Syrah that was raised 20 months in 54% new French oak, the 2013 Syrah Ethos Reserve Colombia Valley is another first-rate effort from winemaker Bob Bertheau. Giving up lots of jammy black raspberry and crème de cassis fruit, vanilla, toast and spice, it has full-bodied richness, a decadent, rounded texture, ripe tannin and a great finish. From a difficult vintage for Syrah, this is a beauty!
